Insect killed my cucumber plant!

Asked July 22, 2019, 7:53 PM EDT

When I woke up this morning, I realized that my cucumber plant was completely ruined overnight! It appears that a bug completely bit through the stems, therefore separating the leaves and blooms from the rest of the plant. Do you have any idea what kind of bug could have done this? I reside in Portland, Oregon. Thank you!

It may be a cutworm. I found this article from U of Minn extension https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/cutworms. It does contain some strategies for protecting your transplants from the damage.
