My two Dogwood trees have different problems

Asked July 20, 2019, 11:12 AM EDT

Hi,I have two different types of Dogwood trees and they both have
some type of fungus. The first tree has white powdery stuff on the
branches and leaves, this stuff cause the leaves to turn brown and fall off.
The second tree has yellow spot on the leaves, which also turn brown and
falls off.
I would greatly appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Thank you for your question, Cindy. I is very difficult to diagnose plant problems without photos and, often, examining the plant tissue. Without seeing the leaves, I can guess the ‘white powdery stuff’ is powdery mildew (http://extension.udel.edu/blog/powdery-mildew-on-dogwood/), and the yellow spots may be anthracnose (http://plantclinic.cornell.edu/factsheets/dogwoodanthracnose.pdf). But these are just guesses. I suggest you take photos and leaf samples to your county Extension office for a positive ID. Here is their webpage: http://ccesuffolk.org/ Good luck!
