How many hours?

Asked July 20, 2019, 10:39 AM EDT

I am trying to grow spearmint and chocolate mint. I know that mint plants require partial shade, but how many hours of the day should they have sun and how many hours should they have shade? I want to be sure that they get the right amount of each.

Mints are very hardy perennial herbs and are tough plants. They generally prefer full sun but will tolerate partial shade. References do not mention amounts of sun versus shade. There is anecdotal evidence that they grow just fine in partial shade. Try experimenting and see what works best for you.
Mints can be invasive in the garden so it is recommended to plant in containers or place in the garden where you can watch their spreading root systems.
