Studying clear cut streams + water quality with your citizen scientists

Asked July 19, 2019, 8:52 PM EDT

Are there any youth watershed research groups that study the environmental impact of clear cut harvesting on water quality, benthic macroinvertebrates EPT's, pesticide use , and sedimentation? If so, who are they? If not, why not? Thanks. Paul Ferris

Hi Paul,
I am not aware of any "youth" watershed research groups studying this issue, but there may be some that are doing this work. I am most familiar with the research efforts from the OSU College of Forestry faculty. They have been working on a variety of projects over the years with graduate students. Here are a list of contacts and websites in case you would like to ask them about youth involvement.

Here is a website that includes these types of studies - http://watershedsresearch.org/. I suggest clicking on the "Watershed Studies" tab to learn more about the Alsea, Hinkle and Trask watershed studies.
