Invasive bamboo

Asked July 18, 2019, 12:48 PM EDT

Our neighbor's bamboo is so invasive that when it rains or snows we cannot exit our driveway. Their bamboo hangs over our driveway. Is there anything we can do about this?

Hi- removal of the bamboo by your neighbor is the only sure long-term solution.

A possible short-term solution, depending on specific circumstances, would be to install a series of metal or wooden posts at least 20 ft. tall and connect them with strong wire that would prevent snow/ice loads from bending the culms over your driveway.

Our recommendation for permanent removal is to find a landscape contractor who regularly performs this work. They cut down and remove all top growth, use earth-moving equipment to unearth and remove all of the underground rhizomes, and then treat/remove any re-growth.
