Different type of bee attacking honeybees

Asked July 16, 2019, 4:43 PM EDT

I have these different looking honeybees on my specific flowers. They are very mean and keep attacking the regular looking honeybees. Sometimes they fly up and come after me. They are pollinating, they hover, and have a darker back. I seen one these fly up at an upward angle about 3 inches away from a pollinating regular honeybee and hover for a brief moment with its abdomen down. Then it suddenly darted straight to the regular honey be and attached itself to the others back. I could see it repeatedly stinging it. What are these?!!!

I cannot give a definitive identification without photos or better yet, an actual specimen. I suspect it is not a honeybee, but rather a male Anthidium protecting its territory. Check out the bees in these photos and see if they look similar. https://www.google.com/search?q=anthidium&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=inv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwikw4-B0bzjAhVEnJ4KHf6MDpkQ_AUIFSgB&biw=320&bih=438 That’s the best I can do without seeing it.
