Chicagoland Boxwoods

Asked July 12, 2019, 8:38 PM EDT

All our landscape plants look good except the two Chicagoland Boxwoods on our north side front-they have yellow leaves on top. I trimmed many of the top yellow leaves off-but they came back-the bottoms are green. I did put some fertilizer spikes around them-but they are not improving. Should I replace them?

Our guess is that the boxwood near the wall may recover. You can improve its appearance by cutting the yellow foliage back to green leaves.

We don't know whether the plant in the foreground is viable. If its foliage is dead to the ground and no new growth is present, replacement is warranted.
