watermelon with blacked tip

Asked July 12, 2019, 2:26 PM EDT

My tiny watermelons have black/brown tips and then fall off the plant. Please see picture of the plant and the fruit. The plant is currently growing on a mound of dirt that contains old grass turf.

Please advise.

Thank you,

Hi- it appears that these baby fruit were not successfully pollinated- either through insufficient bee visits (8-12) or environmental conditions that damaged flower parts or interfered with pollination and fertilization.

Be patient and you will likely see fruits form if male and female flowers are opening on the same day. There are lots of YouTube videos that show how to hand-pollinate melons if you are so inclined.
