How to harvest red leaf lettuce?

Asked July 9, 2019, 7:45 PM EDT

Do we cut individual leaves, or cut the whole plant at one time for consumption?

Hello, thanks for the question. You can actually do either technique. If you have a good number of plants, it is easier and quicker to just cut the whole plant 2-4 inches above the soil line. They will grow back in a couple of weeks enough to be cut again. You can do this several times before they start getting bitter, at least until it gets too hot outside and they just bolt.
If you only have a few plants, you will probably want to just harvest the biggest outside leaves to ensure a constant supply for several weeks.
Enjoy your fresh lettuce.
