Native Prairie Restoration

Asked July 8, 2019, 1:38 PM EDT

I am considering turning about 5 acres of my property that is currently a hay field back into a native prairie using native plants appropriate to my mid Michigan location. Some folks from other states I have spoken to indicated that their state had a program to cover some of the cost for people who undertake this kind of project. Can you tell me if Michigan has a program to help supplement the cost of a prairie restoration

You may want to talk to the soil conservation district in Jackson County. Land can be put into CRP Crop Reserve Program but there are specific conservation conditions that must be followed. Conservation in Jackson can be reached at: 517-395-2082.
