Dying Maple tree

Asked July 6, 2019, 2:13 PM EDT

This is the second tree in a row of 6 trees along my driveway that is slowing dying. As the summer progresses all the leaves turn yellow and show black spots and black ends on the leaves. Is this a disease on the leave, root problem or a soil deficiency? The first tree next to the road has no leaves at all this summer and appears dead. The row of trees appears darker green and healthy closer to the house.

I recommend you check the following website and compare your tree symptoms that you are seeing to some of the examples of common maple diseases. Alternatively, you can reply and attach photos - both of whole tree and close up of leaf symptoms. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/deciduous/maple/ You can confirm disease questions by sending a sample of your tree to the University of Minnesota plant disease clinic. See the web link below for more information. https://pdc.umn.edu It may also be beneficial to hire an arborist to evaluate your site. Some cities have an arborist on staff, or see below for a link on more information on hiring an arborist. https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/how-hire-tree-care-professional
