Dividing Iris

Asked July 4, 2019, 9:38 AM EDT

I have the instructions on how to divide irises, but I have one more question. Once I dig up the Iris how long can I keep it out of the ground before replanting? I have quite a few and I will be sharing with friends but won't see them for about a week. And I have time now to do the digging.

They should be fine out of the ground for a week. Store in the shade. Try to keep the rhizomes a little damp (but not in water). Even if the roots dried, it would not kill them, but it would take them much longer to re-establish when they get planted.
