New Lawn

Asked July 3, 2019, 2:55 PM EDT

Had a new lawn put in early March, I have been mowing it with a self propelled walk behind. My question is can I now start mowing it with my riding mower? The lawn is pretty thick and it is traveling have already fertlized it once and will fertilize the later part of this month.

Yes that is fine. It is well established now. Generally we recommend fertilizing in spring after you've mowed twice and again in early fall, perhaps late September in your area. Other than that just return clippings and your lawn will have ample nutrients. Overfertilizing results in more mowing, increased water requirements, decreased root development, and decreased drought tolerance.
