How do you tell the difference between an eastern cottontail and European rabbit? I ask because we have lots of rabbits in Tenleytown, which would be exciting and worth reporting if they were cottontails since they are threatened in the District. But if they are European rabbits that is much less interesting. I’ve looked online and both seem to have similar characteristics including white tails. I’ve attached a couple of recent pics of baby bunnies in my neighborhood. Thanks so much!

We've had no reports of European rabbits in Maryland or this region. If so, they would be categorized as an invasive species.
