Fresh picked cherries, home canned
I would suspect that it is the little maggots put there by the spotted wing fruit fly which likes fruit that is just ripe. They can also be a problem on berries and peaches. They are very common in Oregon. It is not harmful, just don't think about what you are eating. smile. If you really want to know for sure take one of the cherries with the white dots to the Lane County Extension Office on the corner of 10th and Jefferson in Eugene and the Master Gardeners can look at it under the microscope and tell you for sure.
It definitely is not bacteria and ok to eat.
