Oak root rot?
My pin oak has developed a fungus near the base of the tree. It seems worse now that the temps are hotter. Is there anything I can do about it? The tree has leaf scorch but is still providing some shade so I want to wait awhile to have it cut down. It's about 70 years old.
Woodford County Kentucky
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the fungus as it is just a sign of wood decay in the tree. Page 7 of this document provides more information: https://plantpathology.ca.uky.edu/files/ppfs-or-w-01.pdf
It is difficult to say how much decay is happening in the tree or how long it will live, but I would be happy to do a site assessment or look at pictures of the tree. The best way to contact me to set this up is by email at email@example.com or by phone at 859-873-4601.
