Oak root rot?

Asked June 26, 2019, 5:04 PM EDT

My pin oak has developed a fungus near the base of the tree. It seems worse now that the temps are hotter. Is there anything I can do about it? The tree has leaf scorch but is still providing some shade so I want to wait awhile to have it cut down. It's about 70 years old.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about the fungus as it is just a sign of wood decay in the tree. Page 7 of this document provides more information: https://plantpathology.ca.uky.edu/files/ppfs-or-w-01.pdf
It is difficult to say how much decay is happening in the tree or how long it will live, but I would be happy to do a site assessment or look at pictures of the tree. The best way to contact me to set this up is by email at faye.kuosman@uky.edu or by phone at 859-873-4601.
