Native plantings for flood/dry areas

Asked June 24, 2019, 2:27 PM EDT

Hello, I have been planting a 3 lot site in Lake Odessa for pollinators, birds and butterflies. We have a large area that floods all spring then is dry all summer. The soil is pretty average and most is full sun. Can you suggest any plants or shrubs for such an area. Thanks, Nancy Mclaughlin.

Hello, The area that you describe somewhat like a rain garden, in that it has wet and dry periods. There are many plants that can thrive in such an area. I’m attaching two articles. One from the Xerces Society and one from Rain Gardens of West Michigan with suggestions about how to construct such a garden. https://xerces.org/2018/04/04/rain-gardens-are-a-win-win/ https://www.westmichiganglsi.org/uploads/6/7/9/8/6798898/rain_gardens_native_plant_list.pdf
