Dutch Elm Diease

Asked June 22, 2019, 8:01 AM EDT

Hi, In my neighborhood we have several old Elm trees. What are our choices for DED treatment? Our trees do not have DED, I want to give them a boost to ward off and keep healthy. What are the different chemical, different treatment cycles? These are city owned trees, located between the curb and sidewalk

Are you sure that you have American Elm trees? There are other types of Elms that are resistant to the disease.
If you are concerned, it would be worth checking with the city foresters for i.d. and possible treatment. Otherwise your options are to hire a tree company that employs an arborist certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) to asses and protect the trees with injections, which can be expensive.

Most large tree companies have certified arborists on staff, or you can search for one at www.treesaregood.org
