New weed in lawn

Asked June 19, 2019, 5:19 PM EDT

I have a new weed that's growing in my front lawn. It has covered a large section. I'm interested in its identity and mitigation strategies. Also, when is the best time to overseed my lawn once the weeds are removed? Thanks.

This is Japanese stiltgrass, a non-native invasive weed which is aggressively invading parks and natural areas and damaging the environment. Not to mention it is a problem in lawns. Here is our webpage on it, including control measures: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/japanese-stiltgrass
