Shotgun fungus on skip laurels

Asked June 19, 2019, 3:08 PM EDT

My skip laurels receive too much water. I am correcting that problem. I have mature plants that have never been fed. What do you recommend to restore some nutrients to the soil. Thank you

Thank you for your question. I'm not quite sure how the shotgun (artillery) fungus, too much water, and soils nutrients fit together, but before you add any nutrition to the soil, I suggest you get your soil tested. I suggest you contact your county Extension office to see where the nearest soil testing lab is, and follow their recommendation. Here is their webpage: http://ccenassau.org/

Here is, by the way, a Cornell staff article about artillery fungus you might find interesting: http://dea.human.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/pdf/exploding-fungus-attacks-house.pdf

Good luck!
