Zucchini fruit not fully maturing and turning yellow

Asked June 19, 2019, 12:34 PM EDT

I have a few zucchini plants growing in smart pots from seeds I started this year. They are producing plenty of male and female flowers and many fruits, but after a while, the fruits seem to stop growing and begin turning yellow. I assume they are being pollinated ok. They are in great quality Promix and compost, and have gotten fish fertilizer a few times. Any idea what could be going wrong?

Hi- it's possible that your plants are getting enough visits from pollinating insects. It takes 8-12 bee visits to fertilize enough ovules (baby seeds) to get a full-grown fruit.

You could try hand-pollinated the female flowers:

Growing summer squash in containers is a challenge. A 20-30 gallon size container may be needed to grow a large, productive plant.
