Plethora of violets

Asked June 18, 2019, 9:15 PM EDT

We have an explosion of violets in our flower and shrub beds. What is the best way to deal with this and prevent a recurrence in the future?

The best way to deal with violets in beds is to dig in moist soil using a weeding tool.
You can also try cutting them at the base to exhaust the root system. This will be an ongoing process.
They are difficult to control but do have some wildlife value. They are a larval food source for fritillary butterflies. You can also leave them as a groundcover.
