Trying to identify a tree

Asked June 18, 2019, 11:54 AM EDT

I have a tree that's dying and will probably need to be replaced. Some of its main trunk is rotting and has fungus on it. Can you tell from the photos what kind of tree it is? Also, if we decide to replace it with the same kind of tree, do you sell that kind? Thank you very much for your help.

The tree is declining and looks like an American beech tree, Fagus grandifolia.
This tree is a little fussy and and grows best in a moist well drained soil in full sun. It does not like wet or compacted soils.

We answer questions on horticulture and pest and disease problems. We are not a nursery and do not sell plants.

Thanks. That was a big help!
