should I pinch off buds after flowers are gone?

There are beds of irises and peonies in the backyard of the house we moved into a month ago. They were in flower then but the blossoms dropped off. Should we pinch off the buds?

Peonies - remove faded flowers regularly during the bloom period. Cut out damaged stems or unhealthy looking leaves. Cut the foliage to the ground in late fall and compost or if leaf spot has been an issue discard in the trash.

Iris - If you have more flowers on the stem, then you can pinch off the faded flowers. After all flowering, cut the iris flower stems back to the base. Do not cut the leaves back. They need their leaves to store up energy for next year. Remove any brown or unhealthy foliage.

Thanks very much!
