trimming evergree trees

Asked June 15, 2019, 4:51 PM EDT

I would like to trim the bottom limbs of our evergreen trees to make mowing easier. Will this impact the health of the trees. Is there a proper time of year to do the trimming

I'm also wondering what kind of trees these are.

The trees look like leyland cypress. Pruning the lower branches will affect the natural shape of the tree and this tree seldom needs pruning except to remove dead wood. It is up to you if you want to prune. Do not prune August through October if you are pruning branches and not back to the trunk.

We recommend mulching out to the dripline of the tree to prevent string trimmer and lawn mower damage. Make sure mulch is no thicker than several inches and keep the mulch away from the base of the trunk.
