Do Figs grow in Montgomery county?

Asked June 10, 2019, 7:36 PM EDT

I have tow fig trees that freeze to the ground every year. I don't know what type they are. I am going to plant some Chicago Hardy and Celest types. Do you think they have a chance without covering them ?

Celeste, Brown Turkey, Hardy Chicago, Brunswick, Marseilles, and Osborne are some of the most winter hardy cultivars of figs which perform well in Maryland. Sustained temperatures below 10° to 15°F will kill above-ground wood. More extreme temperature changes are expected with climate change -- and we cannot predict the weather. Winter protection, therefore, is recommended. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/figs
