Blue Oat Grass

Asked June 9, 2019, 3:25 PM EDT

Our blue oat grasses are blooming with flowering spikes. Nice, except they block the view of our plants behind the grasses. Okay to cut off the spikes?

Yes, it is okay to cut off the spike of the grass, however, this will disable it from reproducing. The spike of a grass is actually the reproductive parts or flower of the plant so if you cut them off the plant will likely not reproduce and may endure stress. It shouldn't be an issue for something as hardy as blue oat grass but something to be aware of.
