Maple tree problem

Asked June 6, 2019, 5:06 PM EDT

Help! Due to freeze and thaw cycles this spring, two of our 13 year old sugar maples have experienced bark split. Here are a couple pictures. Should we do something to protect them now, and should we wrap the trunks in the late fallm Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sue Dooher Suedooher12@gmail.com

There is no treatment for a split bark. The damage to your tree is severe. It is doubtful it will have a normal lifespan.
