Maple tree problem

Asked June 6, 2019, 5:06 PM EDT

Help! Due to freeze and thaw cycles this spring, two of our 13 year old sugar maples have experienced bark split. Here are a couple pictures. Should we do something to protect them now, and should we wrap the trunks in the late fallm Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sue Dooher

There is no treatment for a split bark. The damage to your tree is severe. It is doubtful it will have a normal lifespan.
