Winter moth infestation

Asked June 2, 2019, 1:35 PM EDT

We are in our second year of a MAJOR winter moth infestation. They have dessimated an ash and are now totally covering our large oak. The inch long green caterpillars are dropping by the thousands and leaving silk trails. Our yard is literally covered with silk and caterpillars. Is there anything we can do at any time of year to stop this infestation?

When winter moths are small, B.t. Bacillis thuringiensis, Dipel, Thuricide) is an effective control. However, once they get to an inch long they become more difficult to kill. Spinosad might be one to try.
