Serviceberry bush

Asked May 31, 2019, 10:25 AM EDT

Hello! I have a saskatoon serviceberry bush, Amelanchier alnifolia. I have a space 14 ft by 16 ft with full sun. I want to give it the space it needs here but no more. 1) How far from the edge should I place it? 2) how should I amend the soil, not knowing my own soil analysis but sure I am alittle low on the acidity it may need. Thank you for your advice!!!

The minimum distance from the edge would be 3 ft. It grows slowly so unless you plant other shrubs next to it if it gets too large it’s neighbors could be moved. To lower the pH of your soil add 1/2 cup of garden sulfur or elemental sulfur to the soil at planting time and every year. If the leaves look a little yellow water it with 1 tablespoon of vinegar in a gallon of water once a month.
