Pruning advice recently planted north star cherry?

Asked May 31, 2019, 9:08 AM EDT

I planted a North Star cherry tree 3 weeks ago. The tree is about 6’ tall. Advice I received from Bachman’s was to remove any cherries that are starting to develop this first spring. Is this correct advice? Should I snip off any cherries that are forming now? There appear to be many forming : ) Thanks!

The reason for removing the fruit is so the tree will put its energy into growing new roots. If you don’t or can’t get them all the tree won’t be set back by a lot. Make sure the teee gets enough water this year and check it frequently when the temperature is in the 80s and 90s. If the soil is dry at a depth of 2 inches give it some water.
