flat snake

Asked May 30, 2019, 2:50 PM EDT

I moved to Delaware from Pennsylvania almost 20 years ago and in that time i have only seen a couple of snakes.I have seen a couple of black snakes, and know what a hog nose looks like, but this one puzzles me and would like to find out the species.I was researching online for Delaware snakes and did not see one like this and found out that a hog nose can flatten it head like a cobra. Well this one had a flat head and also a flat body as flat as its head. This is the second one i have seen. The first one was 12-15 inches long about a month ago and this one was about 18-22 inches today. They are a little lighter in color than a copperhead, being more of a sand and white color. The head is about 1 1/4 " wide. May 30 2019. Thank You very much. Dale Biller

Dale,

Thank you for your question. I have listed several resources here, but suggest you contact Jim White. See his contact information below. It is hard to help without a photo, etc. I hope this is helpful. Best regards, Tracy
