Will my tree recover?

Asked May 30, 2019, 9:41 AM EDT

Hi. I have a question. I have a tree that a good amount of bark was taken off by some small children. I’m trying not to think the worst but I have some hope that my tree could be saved. Is there any way I can save my tree?

Good Morning, Unfortunately this damage will harm the tree and you will likely see additional symptoms of distress if you haven't already. Here is an article which helps to explain how the loss of bark affects tree health: https://aces.nmsu.edu/ces/yard/2007/090807.html . It might be helpful to have an arborist evaluate the tree on site- to answer questions like what kind of tree is it, is it showing additional signs of stress, are there management techniques you can employ to prolong the life of the tree and so on? If this interests you the ISA website (International Society of Arboriculture) is a great resource and offers a search feature where you can search for a certified and insured arborist by zip code https://www.isa-arbor.com/ . I hope this is helpful.
