Lucky you!

You have active integrated pest management (IPM) of insects in your garden. That colorful small insect is an immature lady beetle. It and its kin are very fond of dining on small soft bodied insects, especially aphids.

"Convergent Lady Beetle" illustrates and explains the life cycle of a lady beetle very similar to your image: http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/NE/convergent_lady_beetle.html

And this link takes you to a page describing and showing various kinds of lady beetles, all of them helpful in gardens and landscapes: "Lady Beetles"
