Age of old Tamarack?

Asked May 23, 2019, 9:42 AM EDT

We recently cut down five old Tamaracks from our property. Wonder about their age. Verna counted 35 rings but we’ve lived here 30+ years....and they were big back then. Sad to see them go, and hopefully will replant a few this fall. Age? Thanks. Dave Banner

Usually, a stump surface needs to be sanded smooth in order to see the tree rings well. In years when a tree has had less growth (e.g., poor weather conditions), the rings will be smaller/closer together. This may make it difficult to discern one year's growth ring from the next. Sorry, but we cannot determine the tree's age from this photo.
