Moving 1 year old artichokes to pots

Asked May 22, 2019, 11:46 PM EDT

Good afternoon! I have two artichoke plants that have been growing in a raised bed since last Spring. They are approximately 4 feet tall now and both have small fruit emerging. I need to move them to terra cotta pots as the beds they are in are no longer maintained. Any tips for the most effective way to prepare and move them so that they can survive and thrive after they are planted in the pots? Thank you!

Moving the artichoke plant to pa not recommended. Artichokes grow really big so the pot needs to be big also, about 14 inch diameter pot.
They use a lot of water so they need a lot of irrigation.
Potted plants can freeze if the winters are too cold, down around 10 degrees.

The best time to move would be in October after the plant dies back. If done now, irrigate the pot regularly.

Thank you so much for your advice! I truly appreciate it.
