Sawdust from treated lumber and composite decking drifting onto veg garden

Asked May 22, 2019, 11:34 AM EDT

Hello, We are having a deck built in our backyard. There is some sawdust from the treated lumber and the composite decking that is drifting on to the vegetable garden. Am I going to poison myself by eating food from these gardens? Or give myself cancer in 20 years if I don't swap the soil out? Thank you for your help, I appreciate it! From Elizabeth

Modern treated wood no longer contains the hazardous chemicals it did ten years or so ago, by the time the sawdust decays it will no longer pose a threat, however, if there is a large pile, I would remove it. For more information check

Hi Dennis, thanks for that response and info. Very helpful. Is there any research about the composite decking?
