Thornless Honeylocust Tree - No Buds

Asked May 21, 2019, 9:57 AM EDT

Hi, there, I have Thornless Honeylocust tree that is about 3 years old which I have planted from the Arbor day Foundation. The tree has grown a lot in the last 3 years and has really become a stand out tree in our yard. This year only one branch has buds on it. Anything I can do? Any reason why it would not have budded out yet? Any help is appreciated. It does appear to be alive but am at a loss as to why it does not bud out.

You are not alone in what you are seeing. It has taken the ground a long, long time to warm up this year. Many trees and shrubs are only starting to bud. Give your tree another month. It should be okay by then. If not, then you do have winter kill.
