Can you tell me what is wrong with the tree. It has been fine for years and now we have sections that are dying

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, the photos are taken so far from the tree that the individual tree tissue is not clearly visible. There are about a dozen maladies that befall ornamental cherry trees, and they need to be diagnosed based on an examination of the plant, as well as assessing the health of the entire tree. I can see only that certain branches have curled, dead leaves, but would need to look for fungal spores, leaking sap, etc. Can you take some closer-up photos, plus these, plus some branch/leaf samples and visit the Clackamas County Extension office? Staff there can conduct a more thorough investigation. The office is at 200 Warner Milne Road, Oregon City, and is staffed from 9 to noon, and 1:00 to 4:00 on weekdays. Thank you for your question, and good luck!
