elderflower ?

Asked May 20, 2019, 11:08 AM EDT

I cleaned up an area of nuisance maples last fall. This appeared this spring in the same spot. I think it is elder, but I can't find any examples online that have such rounded flower clusters and such a purple color to the flowers prior to opening. I don't know if you can help based on what I am providing, but would appreciate an expert opinion. Site where found is a slope, full sun. Pictures taken May 18.

I think this might be red berried Elder, Sambucus racemosa var. pubens.
