Have a attachment for our garden hose to spray heavy infested hosta areas. Will 8 ounces of ammonia to a gallon of water be enough to kill slugs this time of the year? Have so many hostas that normal sprayers take too long. Thanks, Nancy Alfton ps I’m not from Oregon but you are doing mighty serious research on this awful bug.

Thank you for your question, Nancy. Although Oregon is the slug capitol of the earth, the best resource on slug management is the following out of UC: We (neither state) do not recommend ammonia to kill them. It is likely to be far more toxic to your hostas than to the slugs, and you’d need to spend most of the night spraying. Good luck!
