How to slow plant growth on a steep bank

Asked May 8, 2019, 10:43 AM EDT

I have a steep bank that is near a lakeshore. I do not want to kill all the native plants and trees growing on the bank. I just want to slow the growth of the plants so it requires less grooming. I have found some plant growth inhibitor sprays online but am unsure of which type to purchase. I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks. George Kraemer Dassel, MN

Unless you are a lawn care professional, it's unlikely that you will be able to obtain and apply chemicals suitable for the purpose you have described. How such chemicals might perform when applied to a mixed stand of native plants is probably an open question.
