Oozing bumps on apple tree

Asked May 7, 2019, 9:43 PM EDT

My three year old Apple tree has developed an Oozing case of bumps. Not exactly sure what they are but the photo that’s attached will allow you to see and hopefully give me the answer that I’m looking for. Last year it barely had any apples.

I believe that what you are dealing with is Lecanium Scale, Parthenolecanium corni.

This is a key soft scale insect pest of shade trees and other woody ornamental plants.

The following websites will help to explain what is happening on your apple tree and what steps you can take to control the scale.

It can be very scary in appearance, but can be managed. Good luck.
