japanese hornet

Asked May 2, 2019, 1:14 AM EDT

I live in Ocean Pines MD, these hornets are here, I have pictures, and video and have killed multiple. They are are attracted to flood lights outside your house at night and are as big as your thumb. Anyone that says they are not here I will invite you over so can see them.

MDA and USDA APHIS are trapping and surveying for this insect and it is not in the US.
Most likely you are referring to the European hornet. The queens are out looking for nesting sites and are much larger maybe (1 1/2") than the workers. The European hornet can look very similar to the Japanese hornet.
See our website on the European hornet.http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/european-hornets
