Spraying apple trees
When should we spray our apple trees for worms and what kind of product should we use? We live in East Multnomah County. Thanks.

Two different sorts of "worms" can infest apples: codling moths (which go directly to the core) and apple maggots (which feed throughout the apple flesh).
Before you can treat, you must determine who is causing the problem. In some instances, both are present.
The time to treat and which product to use depends upon which insect is causing the problem. Use these 2 publications to determine who is bugging your apples, and what to do about them:
- “Protect your apples from codling moth” (http://cru.cahe.wsu.edu/CEPublications/FS120E/FS120E.pdf}
- “Protecting Backyard Apple Trees from Apple Maggot” (http://cru.cahe.wsu.edu/CEPublications/eb1928/EB1928.pdf)
