Is this poison sumac

Asked April 26, 2019, 9:41 AM EDT

Hello, this plant has appeared in our yard in Chevy Chase, MD. I got a bad rash that my doctor said looked like poison ivy, so I checked the yard and noticed this plant, which looks like it could be poison sumac. Can you tell from the picture if it is indeed poison sumac?

This does not look like poison sumac. Poison sumac grows in the form of a shrub and the new stems are a reddish color. What you have here appears to be a vine, possibly Wisteria. Wisteria has minor toxicity if ingested. I did not find information on dermal toxicity. https://ucanr.edu/sites/poisonous_safe_plants/Toxic_Plants_by_Scientific_Name_685/
