Winter damage from heavy snow

Asked April 25, 2019, 7:43 PM EDT

I have two Globe Arborvitaes that suffered damage this winter from all the snow. The problem is a split at a crotch on both evergreens. I need advice on what I should do at this point.

The broken branch as shown in your second photo must be removed with a clean cut. Also remove any other broken branches. You can then loosely tie the shrub into a rounded shape using the coated green twine available at garden centers. Leave the twine in place to help protect it next winter.

Thank you for your input, I did as you suggested.
