how to get rid of sedge

Asked April 25, 2019, 11:09 AM EDT

How can I get rid of sedge? I am not a big fan of herbicides, especially round up. But then I am not a big fan of sedge either. I do not believe in a monoculture lawn, but I would like to do without dandilions and sedge.

Hello,

Sedge can be controlled with herbicides labeled for sedge. Purdue has a good fact sheet at the link which includes chemical names. https://www.extension.purdue.edu/extmedia/AY/AY-338-W.pdf

Dandelions will not be controlled by the sedge control product. Either use a broadleaf weed killer or hand dig them out. A flame weeder concentrated on the crown of the dandelion plant is also a good organic way to control them.
