Elder hedge

Asked April 25, 2019, 10:40 AM EDT

I need about 12 ft wide section to fill in a partial shaded area. Is that enough and with the proper pruning can I get a reasonable amount of coverage from top to bottom?

I don't think an elderberry is the right plants for a partially shaded area. They are a full sun shrub. They also can get leggy when searching for sun. Consider different shrubs like a viburnum or yews. The yews will thrive in shade and will stay full all the way to the ground. They can be sheared to shape.
