Are my rocks valuable ?!

Asked April 25, 2019, 8:04 AM EDT

I’ve been hunting and collecting rocks just in my area of where I live which is Jefferson County Missouri I just started this so I’m not very educated on what all I have I know that from what I’ve seen I think I have a lot of valuable rocks but in my area it doesn’t seem to be anybody that does this quite often so I’m trying to find someone local that is willing to take a look and is educated on my rocks to see what they value and where I can go from there as far as selling trying to make some money and think this is a good route for me considering all the good quality rocks that I have but without being educated I really don’t know what I have and what they’re worth but I think I have some good stuff for somebody to want to look at! where do I begin?

Hello!

Have you talked to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources? University of Missouri Extension in Jefferson County does not have a Rock identification expert here. There may be an expert at Mastodon State Park.

If you want to find someone further away who may know, you might want to try the people at:
Missouri Geological Survey
111 Fairgrounds Road
PO Box 250
Rolla, MO 65402-0250
800-361-4827

You could email and ask a Missouri Geologist: askageologist@dnr.mo.gov

Here is a booklet resource about Missouri Rocks and Minerals:

Good Luck!
